What is a Registry Cleaner?

Your system is not running as fast as it used to and you have been advised by your friend to use a Registry Cleaner. You are intrigued and you obviously want to know as to what does a Registry Cleaner do?

Registry Cleaner is a type of software utility which scans the system for obsolete files and links and deleted them from the system registry to help the system run much faster. The registry cleaner though works only for windows operating systems. It is said that it helps remove unwanted items from the windows registry.

Any typical windows operating system works on the basis of its system registry. A windows system registry has entries of all the software, the hardware and most other information about the system. Many a times it happens that the software we install are used for a few days and never again. Also it could have happened that some of the software did not get removed properly. Under all such circumstances, the entries of the software remain in the system registry, using up precious system registry space. So in such a situation, what does a registry cleaner do?

A registry cleaner will remove all such entries which are now redundant and not needed anymore. In the process it will also free up registry space and help all the software already installed on your computer work much faster. It is believed that in a single day a system can enter more than a thousand registry entries. Nearly forty percent of all these entries will not be required once the day's work is finished. A few thousand registry entries will not have much effect on your computer now. But over a period of time, this will undoubtedly slow down your computer.

In fact if the registry of the operating system is even a little bit damaged, it might lead to a system crash. So in order to prevent this, what does a registry cleaner do? It checks which registry entries are the good ones and which are the bad ones. Once it has decided that, it will remove all the bad registry entries from the system and helps the system run better than before.

There are many different registry cleaners available in the market but before you use any of these, it is important for you to understand that no matter what does a registry cleaner do, and how good it is, please backup all your data and set a system restore point that you can revert to in case things don't work out as planned.
